The Permission to Become Anew

Things change, but more importantly, people change. Nothing can stay the same amid so many changes. We are all droplets in a pond, creating a rippling effect on our society. Circumstances arise that force us to move, even when it’s the last thing we want to do. This especially rings true for me in this chapter of my life. Here are a few things I’ve permitted myself to become.
Become Fearless
It seems like fear is at an all-time high these days. There’s newness from the presidency, from the world, from myself myself. In the face of all this change, it’s my safe default to imagine the worst-case scenario and plan accordingly. Truth is, my career made it so that I am frequently evaluating risks. Every decision in life contains both positive and negative risks, whether we know them or not. I’ve begun leaning into the mantra of “Why not me? (complimentary)”. If people can get away with dismantling the system our lives are built upon, I can afford to leap.
Become Grateful
Life is hard. That hardness leaked over into my heart, in some ways, and caused me to operate in this world from a subpar space. As a result, I became ignorant of my daily blessings, which are plentiful. I have a running note on my phone named “Good things are always happening to me,” which I add to every time something good happens. I’m grateful that my reasons for gratitude are laid plain and scrollable. Good things truly are always happening to me.
Become New
I think humans have a layer of skin to shed when it’s time to evolve, similar to a snake. I remember seeing someone mention that they hold funerals for their past selves to mark the beginning of a new era. I am grateful to the me who was frustrated, who felt stuck, who felt lost because she knew that she deserved a fuller life than she was living. To my dreamers, here’s your sign to make it happen!
