A Perfect Night of Ferry Rides, Dinner, and Fun in St. John

Shrimp and chicken chow mein at The Refinery in St. John, featuring vibrant vegetables and savory flavors in a beautifully presented dish.

I love the island of St. John because it offers a slower and more calm way of living than on St. Thomas. While I’m in St. John, the worries and stress of day-to-day life cease to find me. St. John gives me real island vibes with its slower way of living and friendly, small population. Here is how I would recommend to spend a night in St. John.

Starting Your Night in St. John with a Scenic Ferry Ride

Since St. John has no airports, you must boat into it. If you don’t have a private boat, the most common way to visit is by ferry. I prefer to take the ferry from the Red Hook dock in St. Thomas when I visit. The ferry runs daily from around 5:30-6 AM to 11 PM. It’s approximately a 20-minute boat ride between the islands. If the weather permits, there’s nothing I recommend more than riding the ferry in the open airspace on top so that you can see the beauty of the Virgin Islands more closely.

Enjoying Dinner at The Refinery

St. John has a ton of dinner options. On my most recent trip, I enjoyed dinner at The Refinery for the first time, and it didn’t disappoint. The Refinery is an open-air restaurant serving a twist on traditional Caribbean dishes and flavors about a five-minute walk from the Cruz Bay dock. The staff was welcoming and very friendly. I enjoyed their no-jito mocktail, shrimp and chicken, Guyanese, chow mein, cucumber, salad, and Bahamian conch salad. The flavors were fresh and memorable! I can’t wait to visit again and try something new.

Ending the Evening with Fun at The Parrot Club

After dinner, I headed to The Parrot Club for some small island-themed fun. The Parrot Club is a bar/casino near the Cruz Bay dock in St. John. I love that the dock has many things to do and enjoy within walking distance. My visit to the parrot club was purposefully for the chance to win cash during their money raffle. Unfortunately, I didn’t win, but I enjoyed the vibes of the dock. Hopefully, on my next visit, I win big.
